why I love super 8 for weddings

If your grandparents had a wedding video, chances are it would have been filmed on super 8. That’s why I love love love filming weddings using it. There’s something about the warm, flickering frames that feels like a memory before it even happens. The scratches, the light leaks, the tiny imperfections make it feel alive.

I actually started noticing short super 8 films on YouTube a few years ago and thought it looked amazing. In 2023 I finally bought my first Super 8 camera and just started having a go and honestly I fell in love with it straight away. Each roll contains only about 3 minutes of film, so it makes you extremely mindful about what you are shooting, so not to waste it.

I shoot on a vintage (refurbished) Super 8 camera using Kodak film, which is then developed and scanned by a lab. The beauty of it is that it’s shot directly onto physical reels, something you just can’t replicate digitally. The whole process is hands on, taking time and care.

Super 8 suits people who want something a bit different from their wedding film. Something soft, imperfect, honest. If you’re drawn to old family footage, home movies, or that dreamy, nostalgic feel you’ll probably fall in love with it too. It’s a beautiful way to bottle up the mood of the day, without it feeling staged or overproduced.

Some couples like to mix a Super 8 film with a digital one, which gives the best of both worlds. I also do full Super 8 only films for anyone who just wants everything on film.
